About
This is me, Lev Brodsky, professional model maker for over 20 years. I built architectural, museum, military models, designed toys and collectibles, sculpted figurines and action figures – you name it…
Model making is a love of my love, I refused a medical career to be a professional model maker. In 1999 I founded my own company, Gamla Model Makers, and successfully running it till present.
However, this blog is not about me and not about my company. Starting a corporate blog was a great temptation – after all everyone is doing it – to get more traffic and become popular. My main corporate website has a good rating, traffic is raising every day, I barely manage to respond to requests for quotes, so I’ve decided to dedicate this blog to professional model making. Over the years I was accumulating knowledge and experience, learning, developing an understanding of what does it take to be a professional model maker, admiration and respect to the role of the models in our life.
It is not just an occupation - having good hands and eyes is not enough. Being professional model maker is everyday challenge, study, search and analysis. It has its own philosophy and psychology. It requires ability to visualize, focus, discipline yourself and thinking a few steps forward, otherwise you start making mistakes, waste time to fix them, drop the quality and fail a deadline.
There is no college where you can study professional model making and get a diploma. It still be a “shadowed”, semi-recognized profession, where every one comes with different background. No one ever turned an experience into a knowledge and developed a theory of model making.
So, that is what I am trying to do here – to turn experience into a knowledge and knowledge into a science. Not because I am seeking glory for myself, but because model making deserves respect and recognition. Because scale models are not just “toys” or “thingies” but the most powerful and spectacular tools in many areas of our life and work – architecture, design, product development, art and marketing.
Will this content ever turn to be a book? Don’t know… maybe… I would like to see it that way. For now I am just going to do what I wanted to do for a long time – to put the pieces together and build it into a whole. Will see where it will take us…
